"Aoxomoxoa" by the Grateful Dead
CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Grateful Dead "Aoxomoxoa" 1969 (USA)
Since August 1st would have been Jerry Garcia's birthday, choosing a Grateful Dead album to represent the "1969 Time Capsule" show was a no-brainer.  The Dead released two albums in '69, this studio LP and the acclaimed "Live / Dead" double album set.   Until recently I was of the opinion that "Aoxomoxoa" was a disappointing work in the Grateful Dead canon, not as good as it could have been.  That is until I discovered that every pressing of this album since 1971 (on vinyl and also every CD version issued) is a later remix, which is much more compressed and lacking the dynamics and crazy stereo effects of the original 1969 LP mix.  The original vinyl version IS the classic psychedelic album you always hoped "Aoxomoxoa" would be, so it is definitely worth hunting for!
