Minutemen  "Double Nickels on the Dime"  1984 (USA)
This double album is one of the pinnacles of 80's American "indie punk", something like the Beatles "White Album" of its time.  Though like many of their peers on the SST label (Meat Puppets, Husker Du, Bad Brains, Dinosaur jr, Sonic Youth, etc.), the Minutemen's sound really doesn't have much to do with "punk rock" as it's usually conceived.  But no band ever embodied the Do-It-Yourself credo more definitively than Mike Watt, George Hurley and the late, much-loved d. boon.  (None of the CD reissues of this album released to date include all 45 tracks from the original release, so the old double-vinyl version is still the definitive one.)
