"Ratfucker" by Armand Schaubroeck Steals (1978)
CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Armand Schaubroeck Steals "Ratfucker"  1978 (USA)
Armand Schaubroeck is certainly one of the strangest characters to poke his head out of the musical underground.  He called his band "Armand Schaubroeck Steals" because he did spend a year or so in a juvenile prison for stealing, a predicament exhaustively documented on his triple-album debut entitled "A Lot Of People Would Like To See Armand Schaubroeck . . . DEAD" from 1975.  He went on to independently release 4 more albums in the later 70's:  two more concept albums, a fake live double album, and a record that may have been a very warped  attempt to cash in on the disco craze!  The "Ratfucker" song cycle is certainly his most extreme statement -- my own theory is that he was inspired by reports of Lou Reed's return to filthy subject matter in late 1977, and he cranked this sucker out just in time to compete with Lou's perverse "Street Hassle" set.  I have to say Armand's album is a lot more filthy and disturbing!  Little is known about Schaubroeck and the method of his madness, though he's not hard to find -- he's the proprieter of House of Guitars in Rochester, NY -- which is quite possibly also where all of his albums were recorded.
