"Around The World In A Day" by Prince & The Revolution (1985)
CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Prince & The Revolution  "Around The World In A Day"  1985 (USA)
Prince is a globally famous pop music virtuouso, and without a doubt his most "psychedelic" album is this record from 1985, the follow up to the mammoth-selling Purple Rain soundtrack, which was dumped on record stores with no advance warning.  Normally such a marketing strategy would be a disaster, but in the mid-80's Prince could do no wrong, and the record scored four hit singles -- the strangest-sounding hits of his career, too:  the downbeat "Pop Life";  the Hendrixian political jam "America";  "Paisley Park" which he named his famous studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota after;  and the violin-driven pop classic "Raspberry Beret".
Prince is notorious for preventing any unauthorized usage of his music, so for video clips this week all I've got for you is this clip of  Prince fooling around on stage with James Brown and Michael Jackson, and here he is wailing on lead guitar on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from George Harrison's "Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame" induction ceremony.
