Grand Funk Railroad  "Grand Funk Live Album"  1971 (USA)
The 1970's was the golden age of rock festivals and the live albums that documented them -- in particular the "double live album" which peaked in popularity around 1975 with mega-sellers Frampton Comes Alive, KISS Alive and The Song Remains The Same,  but became a dinosaur rock cliche by the end of the decade.  One of the very first (and most overblown) double live albums was Grand Funk Railroad's generically titled Grand Funk Live Album, which is meant to duplicate the GFR concert experience (the liner notes specify that one should listen to all eighty minutes in order in one sitting.)  Grand Funk was extremely popular in the USA during the first half of the 1970's (not so much overseas), and pioneered the whole downer rock / heavy metal thing along with bands like Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper -- though in many ways their style could be described as a severely dumbed-down power trio version of fellow Michiganders The MC5's shtick from the late 1960's.
GFR added a fourth member to play keyboards around 1972 (LAME!), but their cool early hit singles as a trio include "Closer To Home (I'm Your Captain)" (which borrows the opening riff from a Monkees song!) and the Animals cover "Inside Looking Out".  Here's the later quartet lineup performing their concert staple "T.N.U.C." (if you can't figure out what that title means -- um, spell it backwards!)
