The pledge drive continues this week, and so the monthly special for March is the "Best Of The Classic Albums of the Week, Part 5" -- looking back over some of the 200+ masterpiece records that have been featured on this show so far.  Thus the new CAOTW must be a very special one, and few figures in 20th century music are more special than Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno (that really is his full name!  Now you see why he usually just calls himself "Eno".)  After making a couple records as the synthesizer player for Roxy Music, Eno started recording solo albums and producing and collaborating with other like-minded musicians in 1973.  This, his second solo album, is my favorite of his "pop" albums -- a strange LP that may or may not be a "Maoist Opera" concept album, but which most definitely foreshadows the "new wave" and "post punk" sounds that he would later produce for groups like Talking Heads and U2.
Eno doesn't perform live much, so here's a fan video for "The True Wheel" from this album.  And here's the music video for "Strange Overtones" from Eno's 2008 collaboration with David Byrne, and here's a clip someone put up of "Qu'ran", a (now) "rare" track from their first classic collaboration My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts  from 1981 (unfortunately it was cut from the recent CD remaster in order "not to offend muslims.")  Eno also composed one of the most heard pieces of music in recent history, the 4-second long "Microsoft theme"!  And here's Eno on Youtube and the death of Television.  Outside of the music world, some of Eno's more notable achievements include Oblique Strategies and the Long Now Foundation.
