Creedence is one of the greatest American rock bands there ever was.  After their first pair of tasty psychedelicized swamp boogie albums (Creedence Clearwater Revival from 1968 and Bayou Country released during the first week of 1969), the group really hit their stride and churned out a stunning array of Top 40 working class anthems throughout 1969-1970, and released five huge-selling albums during just those two years!  Although Green River (1969) and Willy & The Poor Boys (1969) are unqualified masterpieces, arguably it was this, their fifth LP, which was the pinnacle of CCR's career.  The follow up Pendulum (also 1970) also has a lot to recommend it, though the last album they made as a trio (Mardi Gras from 1972) is frankly kind of a stinker.  Unfortunately, they broke up acrimoniously and leader John Fogerty has never shown much interest in playing with his old mates again.
Here's one of the many hit singles from this album, the goofy classic "Looking Out My Back Door".  The album's centerpiece is a funky jam on Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine".  Next, here's the group's most famous song "Proud Mary",  and the theme song they used to open their concerts: "Born On The Bayou".  In recent years, the CCR rhythm section of Stu Cook and Doug Clifford have toured under the name "Creedence Clearwater Revisited".
