"Only Life" by The Feelies (1988)

The Feelies  "Only Life"  1988 (USA)
The Feelies have just released their fifth album after an on-again/off-again career that has lasted more than 30 years so far.  Their 1980 debut Crazy Rhythms is a critical favorite from the post-punk era that melds two-chord garage rock to hyperactive rhythms.  But in my opinion the string of albums from later in the 1980's and early 1990's are their unsung classics.  These records emphasized the guitars more than the first album, resulting in a very groovy sound that harkens back to the classic sounds of The Byrds (jangle) and Velvet Underground (drone) with lyrics reminiscient of a nerdier version of Iggy & The Stooges (brilliantly dumb teenage punk attitude).
The Feelies scored a minor college rock hit from this album with "Away", but their highest profile moment was probably their appearance in Jonathan Demme's film Something Wild.  Here's a live clip from a a couple years ago which shows that they still got it:  "Raised Eyebrows"!  And here they are playing a tune from the new 2011 album Here Before:  "On And On".
