"Supernature" by Cerrone (1977)
CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Cerrone  "Supernature (Cerrone 3)"  1977 (France)
For the second time this year, our Classic Album comes from a realm of music that's not much explored in America:  "Eurodisco".  From the North American perspective, disco's roots lie in the black, puerto rican and gay club scenes in New York City.  But at the same time, there was an equally important scene going on across the Atlantic ocean (particularly in France, Italy and Germany), and among the most important figures was drummer Marc Cerrone.  His records are full of the danceable beats and soaring strings and synths that have influenced "club" music to this day, but in the early years his albums also tended to be highly conceptual and organized into epic suites that took up entire sides of albums.  Eurodisco:  is it really just prog rock you can dance to?
The title track to this album was a global smash hit (8 million copies sold), so Cerrone made a music video for the single version of "Supernature", as well as the hit from the "romantic suite" on the other side of this album "Give Me Love".  Here's another taste of classic Cerrone Eurodisco, a flashback to 1976 called "Paradise".  Marc Cerrone is still at it today, in fact he's as popular as ever in Europe -- here's a taste of his absurdly flashy stage show:  first a drum solo (with lasers!), and next a live performance of his 2002 hit "Hysteria" (with naked dancers, NSFW!)
