Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks are coming to Madison next Wednesday (February 19), so our classic album this week is one of his finest albums, recorded with his previous band Pavement. Always known for his snarky/wordy/funny lyrics (heavily influenced by the notorious Mark E. Smith from The Fall), Corners was the album where he also began to show off his musical chops with tight arrangements and more-polished-yet-still-wild guitar solos (S.M. plays nonstandard tuned instruments and picks with his fingers, making me think of a player like Tony McPhee of Groundhogs?!)
