Amon Duul II "Yeti" 1970 (Germany)
Amon Duul II's second album was a double set, with one record of songs and a second record of improvisations, and is on the short list of quintessential "krautrock" albums. Amon Duul II's particular niche in the krautrockuniverse was that they were the "most gothic" in sound (comparable to the Velvet Underground & Nico) and also among the "heaviest" (they've also been called "Led Zeppelin minus the blues influence.")  Furthermore, ADII was one of the most successful German groups of their era, with the core members sticking together to record more than 10 albums, some of which sold pretty well even outside of Germany.
