"Ummagumma" by Pink Floyd (1969)
CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Pink Floyd "Ummagumma" 1969 (UK)
Admittedly this week's classic album pick is a bit of an afterthought -- I was doing mostly British stuff, and Pink Floyd is one of the most played artists on the show and have never had a classic album before, so here you go.  This 1969 album was their first double disc set, consisting of one live record and one studio record.  For the studio album, each band member gets half a side of a record to do whatever they want.  The results are undoubtedly self-indulgent, yet I come back to playing this Floyd record surprisingly often.  It certainly represents one extreme of their early approach, and it's definitely not as over exposed as their "classic" albums from the 1970's.  Heck, from the op-art cover on in, it's pretty much an unsung psych masterpiece!
