- Can "Soundtracks" 1970 (Germany)
- We featured drums last week, and I included two great German drummers (Klaus Dinger and Mani Neumeier), but neglected to mention another legendary beatmaster from the "krautrock" scene: Can's Jaki Liebezeit. Perhaps the funkiest of all German drummers, Liebezeit seems to have been majorly inspired by James Brown and holds together one of the loosest improvising ensembles the rock world has ever known. Soundtracks was Can's second album, comprised of music they made for movies. It is somewhat overlooked, perhaps because it is a transitional record which includes the last appearance by their original singer, the crazed American Malcolm Mooney, and the first appearance by their most famous singer, the even more crazed Japanese Damo Suzuki.
- Can performed songs from this album on German TV with their brand new singer Damo -- here's a shortened version of this album's epic jam "Mother Sky", and another track called "Deadlock". Can was one of the most popular groups in their homeland during the 1970's, and scored their biggest hit single with a song called "Spoon".
