Hot Tuna "Yellow Fever" 1975 (USA)

Hot Tuna have just released their first studio album in 20 years. This bluesrock jam duo features Jefferson Airplane founders Jorma Kaukonen on guitar & vocals and Jack Casady on bass. They first started as an Airplane side project in the late 1960's, but became Jack & Jorma's main band when they quit the Jeffersons in 1973. Most of their releases have been live albums, but they produced a pair of classic studio albums in 1975, this week's CAOTW and America's Choice. These stripped-down funky bluesy heavy trippy power trio recordings sound a lot like the best jammy moments of Jefferson Airplane, minus the pop and art pretensions of that group's singers Grace, Paul and Marty.
Here's a good example of early Tuna in electric mode, "Come Back Baby" from 1972, and a recent performance of a song from this album, Jerry Reed's blues classic "Baby What You Want Me To Do". And here's Jorma and Jack with Jefferson Airplane back in 1968: "The House Of Pooneil Corners", a legendary clip of the band freaking out the squares in NYC!
