FUNKADELIC

"Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic (1971)
CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Funkadelic  "Maggot Brain"  1971 (USA)
For the ninth(!) annual Parliamrnt-Funkadelic spectacular, our classic album is probably the most celebrated record in either groups' discography.  Maggot Brain is the wildest, most brain-melting slab of psychedelic hard rock funk there ever was, including the mostly instrumental ten minute title track which is an iconic performance by the group's unsung guitar wizard Eddie Hazel (which I believe is also the most requested song in the history of the KR programme). Other highlights include fierce rockers "Super Stupid" and "Hit It And Quit It", the goofy pop soul of "Back In Our Minds" and "Can You Get To That" (the latter a remake of an earlier tune recorded by the original 60's incarnation of the band known as The Parliaments), and the closing epic "Wars of Armageddon", which is about global thermonuclear war and includes farting sounds and a flushing toilet!
