"Mothership Connection" by Parliament (1975)
CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Parliament  "Mothership Connection"  1975 (USA)
This week is the TENTH annual Parliament-Funkadelic Spectacular! After ten years I am retiring this annual special, because I think the point has been made: P-Funk was the greatest American band of the 20th century. Their fourth LP under the name Parliament is the cornerstone of the entire operation: a truly mystical exegesis on funk from the stars (shades of Sun Ra). George Clinton looks like he is about to give birth on the cover photo, as he rides his breast-shaped flying saucer straight to the ghetto. From video and audio recordings, the ensuing 1976 Mothership Connection tour  was also one of the greatest things ever to happen on concert stages during the Holocene Era. Have a funky fourth of July!
