This week is the latest annual installment of our "vinyl records from 50 years ago" specials that began six years ago as a feature of WORT's summer PLEDGE DRIVE! It is sometimes difficult to choose a classic album for shows like this: 1973 was a year with many classic albums that are already in the hall of fame. So we go with an obscure but cool record from that year: the soundtrack to a little-remembered surreal British art film, directed by Lindsay Anderson and starring Malcolm McDowell. The movie also features Alan Price (former keyboardist of The Animals and their leader until Eric Burdon took over), playing songs he wrote for the movie - performing a sort of "Greek chorus" role commenting on the deeper themes of the movie (mainly class, sex, capitalism, and British stuff). The album is short but includes several great songs, and I also highly recommend the film if you are interested in 1960's-70's psychedelic cinema!
