Bernard Worrell, the original "kid Funkadelic" who played keyboards all over Parliament and Funkadelic records since way way back in 1970, has passed away. Around 1980 there was a schism in the P-Funk mob, resulting in the era of "George Clinton & The P-Funk All Stars", and Bernie Worrell took off for a lucrative gig touring with Talking Heads during a period when that group was getting seriously into funk, afrobeat and gospel grooves. Bernie only actually played on one studio track with the Heads, "Girlfriend Is Better", a madly swinging number from this album, which was the band's commercial high point. The title of the lead off track "Burning Down The House" is taken from one of George Clinton's P-Funk concert chants, and it became Talking Heads only American Top 10 hit single. The rest of the album, while not as "experimental and artsy" as its acclaimed predecesor, does feature awfully weird lyrics and "snaky skysaw" guitar sounds straight off an Eno record (although Eno didn't produce this one as he had their previous three). Plus it's their FUNKIEST album: still a timeless, hip party soundtrack all these years later.
